Olivier Desjardins is a computational fluid dynamicist in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering. He develops high-fidelity simulation methods for turbulent flows involving liquids, droplets, and particles, and studies the physics behind how a jet of fuel shatters into a spray, how sprays burn, and how particles are transported in turbulence. His group runs these simulations on some of the largest supercomputers in the world and develops open-source simulation tools used by researchers and industry. He teaches courses in aeronautics, fluid mechanics, and numerical methods. In his free time, he skis, travels, and climbs (he teaches at Cornell's Lindseth Climbing Center). He lives in Ithaca with his family, his even-numbered cats, and an ungrateful bearded dragon.
