Sam Buggeln
Founding Artistic Director of the Cherry Arts

Sam Buggeln is a Canadian theater director and translator, and the founding Artistic Director of the Cherry Arts, a multidisciplinary arts company based in the Cherry Artspace, a flexible waterfront arts venue at 102 Cherry Street in Ithaca’s East End. The Cherry Arts creates work with a focus on international plays in translation and experimental and/or hybrid theatrical forms, as well as hosting a variety of other companies and artists.
As a director Sam has helmed over 20 productions at regional theaters and over a dozen in downtown NYC, where he continues to be an Artistic Associate at the Obie-winning New Ohio Theatre. Productions Sam directed have been Drama Desk nominated and received the Best Play NYC FringeFirst (from among 200 productions); and plays he translated have been published by Oberon, Seagull, in the Mercurian, and produced around the country. He is an alum of the Lincoln Center Directors’ Lab, a member of the international theater network The Fence, and has been a guest artist and instructor at NYU/Tisch, Hunter, SUNY Albany, Ithaca College, and Cornell.
You should absolutely say hi to Sam, and go see shows at the Cherry. Maybe you should even do an internship there!
