Natasha Holmes
Assistant Professor, Physics

Natasha Holmes received her PhD in physics from the University of British Columbia, where she began her research in physics education. She studies teaching and learning in college physics courses, particularly instructional labs. She is particularly fascinated by two questions: What do students really get out of college physics courses (especially labs)? and How do we possibly and confidently measure those outcomes? Through these questions, she has explored how to design labs to better engage students in authentic science experimentation (instead of just demonstrating results discovered hundreds or thousands of years ago) and how issues of equity and diversity emerge in physics instruction. Originally from Canada, Natasha has lived in Southern Ontario and British Columbia, California, and the Middle East. She enjoys traveling, food, ballet, musical theater, and watching her son Calvin and puppy Coho grow and play together.
