Living in Bethe

A serene winter scene featuring two buildings surrounded by snow-covered trees and bushes. On the left, there is a traditional stone building with a steeply pitched roof, dormer windows, and a large lantern hanging from its side. On the right, a more modern building stands with a flat roof and rectangular windows. Snow blankets the rooftops, trees, and all visible surfaces, creating a peaceful, wintry atmosphere.

Bethe House Office

The hub of all things in the House, and located in the lobby of Bethe-North, the Bethe House Office is your first stop for assistance. Much more than a place to pick up your mail and send out-going letters, the House Office is where you can find out about what events are happening in the House and how to sign up. The House Office Assistants are also available to help with lock-outs, loaning games and kitchenware, or troubleshoot any facilities issues that might come up.

Bethe House Facilities

Bethe House was designed to support a vibrant intellectual resident community. It has three main residential areas, Bethe-North, Bethe-South, and Bethe-McFaddin (the stunning Gothic right next to the main building). The residents of Bethe House have full access to all three areas. The dining and common areas between Bethe-South and Bethe-North are open to the larger Cornell community during public hours.

Bethe-Main (Bethe-North and Bethe-South)

  • House Office (mail room and service center), Dining Room, House Professor & Assistant Dean Offices are all located on the first floor of Bethe-North. The House Professor Apartment is also located on the first floor where many events take place that are open to the community by invitation.
  • Common Room (with a piano), Seminar Room (with a television for projection), Conference Room (with a CUPrint printer), a single-person Study Room, and a Guest Suite for visiting Guests, are on the second floor of Bethe-North. The common and study spaces are open for individual and group study, hanging out, and House events. The second floor lobby is also the connector between Bethe-North and Bethe-South from inside (though you can access each side directly from outside).
  • A pantry with a refrigerator, microwave, sink, and toasters are past the Common Room. The pantry is available for Bethe residents with a code and is stocked by Cornell dining with coffee and snacks.
  • Laundry room, a TV lounge, and a music room with two pianos are on the ground floor of Bethe-North.
  • Other than the second floor of Bethe-South, there is a study alcove on each floor with tables and chairs for quiet study, and a trash and recycling room that also has vacuums that can be borrowed temporarily.
  • A full communal kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave, and oven) is on the 4th floor of Bethe-North and Bethe-South.

Bethe-McFaddin
