Mostafa Minawi
Associate Professor, History

Mostafa Minawi is an Associate Professor of history. Broadly, his research focuses on the study of Ottoman imperialism at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. His latest book, Losing Istanbul, is an intimate history of Arab-Ottoman imperialists living through the final decades of the empire in Istanbul. His current research project focuses on Ottoman-Ethiopian relations during the age of High Imperialism. As the director of the Critical Ottoman and Post-Ottoman Studies (CO+POS) at the Einaudi Center, Professor Minawi works to promote the study of the history and contemporary Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Southeast Europe. He received his PhD in History and Middle East Studies from NYU, his MA in History from the University of Toronto, his bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and Management from McMaster University and worked in consultant at a bank in Toronto for many years before entering academia.
