As Senior Vice Provost, Lisa Nishii is responsible for undergraduate admissions and education across Cornell’s ten colleges and schools as well as the university’s financial aid, registrar, and compliance portfolio. She enjoys collaborating closely with campus partners to lead initiatives focused on dialogue and pluralism, advising, access and opportunity, pedagogy, academic policies, curricula, research, and student development. Dr. Nishii is an organizational psychologist in the human resource studies department in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She studies how organizational practices and leader behaviors shape workplace norms which in turn have important implications for team dynamics (e.g., network ties, conflict, information exchange) and outcomes such as innovation, performance, and turnover. As someone who grew up in a bicultural household nested within an international community that was situated within an otherwise very homogenous society, Dr. Nishii is particularly fascinated by contextual and cultural forces. She is known for her cross-cultural expertise and research on diverse teams and organizations.When not working, she enjoys cooking while her husband, Ray, spins house music (they got engaged at a rave in the ‘90s). They like to travel with family when they can, lounge with their doodles, and get out on the lake with friends.
