Kim Overby

Visiting Professor of the Practice Science & Technology Studies

Kim Overby is a Visiting Professor of the Practice in the Department of Science and Technology.  As an academic physician and medical ethicist, her primary role at Cornell has been teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.  Drawing upon her real-world experience, Kim has taught several classes that provide students with an “on-the-ground” perspective regarding contemporary ethical issues in health and healthcare. She also works with students on independent studies and service projects, and is a member of the Faculty Advisory Board for the Cornell Health Professions Advising Center.  Outside of Cornell, Kim contributes time and expertise to a range of health-related community service organizations.

Prior to coming to Cornell, Kim served on the faculties of multiple medical schools and as the medical director for a non-profit organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities.  She has provided general pediatric care for children with complex medical conditions and served as a clinical ethics consultant for several health systems. Her scholarly interests focus on ethical issues in contemporary healthcare, chronic illness, disability, and the healthcare experiences of vulnerable and marginalized populations.

Kim lives out in the country with her husband, two cats, two sheep, and a goat. She has a long-standing interest in the visual arts and creative writing; something which predated medicine and remains a continuous source of enjoyment and reflection.
