Cornell University

Signature Programs

The West Campus House System offers an enhanced in-house programming experience.  Intellectual living-learning programs programs are led by the House Professor Dean, Graduate Resident Fellows, and House Fellows.  Our weekly community dinners, House Dinner, are a central feature of the House program.

House Dinner

When classes are in session, Wednesdays are a special night in the House – a time for our community to come together for a shared meal.  This weekly community dinner is the anchor of our House programming.  The House Chef prepares a special menu and dresses up the dining room with linens and decorations, and many of our House Fellows join the students for dinner and lively conversation.  At times, entertainment is presented by some of Cornell’s many talented students.

Speaker Series

Following House Dinner each Wednesday, the House Professor hosts an informal conversation hour.  Each week features a different guest speaker who leads a conversation on a relevant topic. These conversations are open to the public and are designed to cover a breadth of topics that allow students to explore fields in which they may have no background.

Learning Where You Live Courses:

An initiative of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Learning Where You Live (LWYL) courses are specially designed courses taught in residential spaces, including in the West Campus House System.  They are small, seminar-style classes that are offered for one credit and graded on an S/U basis.  They focus on building relationships with faculty, innovative teaching, and fascinating topics.

Wellness Fair

This annual event, co-sponsored by Cornell Dining and the West Campus House System, features over 20 campus partners, student organizations, and local vendors with wellness-focused activities and giveaways.

Winter Break Book Read

Each year the House System leadership chooses a relevant book and provides students with a free copy to read over winter break.  After winter break, we gather to discuss the book and its relevance in our lives.  Recent books have include Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World by Vivek H. Murthy, MD and Sexual Citizens: Sex, Power, and Assault on Campus by Jennifer Hirsch and Shamus Khan

The West Campus House System Prom

Started after the covid years in recognition of the many students that weren’t able to celebrate prom in person, the West Campus Prom has become an annual event at which we come together as a community to celebrate the end of the academic year.
