Visiting Guests
Guest-in-Residence Program
Our primary goal in the House System is to build an engaged and active intellectual community. The House System is structured to create engagement and to allow for experiential learning that gives students a peek into worlds of which they may be unaware. One of the ways this is done is by direct engagement from distinguished visitors, thus each House is equipped with a guest suite. Use of the suite must be in support of the House program and a benefit to the residents living in the House. An element of the guest’s stay must be to interact with the student-residents of the House.
Andrew D. White Professors-at-Large
Through the AD White Professors-at-Large program students living in the House System have an opportunity to engage with distinguished individuals from diverse disciplines who are in residence at the University.
The Sevin Seminar on American Political Values
The Sevin Seminar on American Political Values brings distinguished individuals and prominent figures in the area of American Politics, such as a politician, professor, author, journalist, political analyst, etc., to share insights on the subject of American political values and ideals. These Fellows are invited to stay in one of the West Campus Houses and mix with students, sharing ideas and insights with House residents. Cornell alumnus Irik Sevin '69 endowed the Sevin Fellowships in honor of late ILR Professor Milton Konvitz, a revered Cornell professor.
The Steven Stucky Memorial Residency for New Music
The Music Department hosts an annual resident ensemble on campus that performs new student works and exchanges ideas with composers and performers in workshops and masterclasses. This residency brings national prominence to new music composition and performance on campus. The West Campus House System partners with the Music Departing, housing the ensemble in the guest suites. The students in the House System engage in small, intimate groups with members of the ensemble through workshops and performances.
