Hyeonseo Kim (hyun-suh)
Graduate Resident Fellow
Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, I came to Ithaca in 2022 to begin my PhD in Classics. I study Greek literature pretty broadly, and lately I've been interested in how quotations are used in poetry. I find great joy in learning and teaching languages, which is an important part of my job as a classicist. Since my work is so intangible, I balance it out by making things—knitting is my favorite craft. Creating my own garments has given me a renewed sense of appreciation for my belongings, which I try to honor by mending things as best as I can. Being outdoors and staying active also keep me grounded: I like to run and swim, and you'll likely find me knitting or reading outside on a sunny day.
